18 Stop: Tupperware

On the 11th of June, Tupperware had an event called I Love Eco at AEON Bukit Tinggi,Klang. They had alot of fun activities like cooking demonstrations. word arranging by kids and more! Everyone is allowed to participate and they sure had alot of fun today. The main objective is to encourage people to use eco-friendly tupperwares and water tumblers which is why Tupperware was promoting some of their products today. They even provided a place for us to throw our normal water bottles for them to be recycled.

A place where you can express your love towards nature in words :D
Thats right people, think before you throw, that is how
you use your brains wisely ;)

Kindly put in your bottles in this cute bin :)

17th Stop : Busy With The Board

After all the talk about building the solar boat and preparation for the solar boat sketch competition which wil be held after the school reopens its now with the board. Me,Goh,Afiqa and Amir together with Jas planned how to decorate one of  the 'pondok' behind teh staff room which is allocated specially for BPMyscience project by our school. We planned to place the board in this 'pondok' and fill it with memo's and info's about this project and to publish it to the whole school. First and formost we used recycle items to paste our information (bottles, used banners and cardboards). We used this two weeks of school holiday to plan all the activities that shall be organised in conjunction of BpMyScience project.

serious discussion on' what to do next?'

very busy!!!!

16th Stop: Everything About Solar Energy

When talking about building a solar boat model first and foremost we need to know what and how does solar energy works and its benefits. Here are some description on solar power:

Solar Energy Advantages are often discussed in the news, the biggest advantage may be that this is an option to achieve energy independence on an individual basis and at your own speed.  You can add a solar powered attic fan or water heater or migrate a little faster with solar panels to supplement a portion of your electrical needs or get completely off the grid or somewhere in between.  You have the flexibility of transitioning to solar energy as your budget allows.

Solar Energy and the Future
An advantage to solar power is that it can reduce expenses. It can also be portable. When one is backpacking in the wilderness or travelling far from power grids, solar power can provide a means of powering electronic equipment. Another advantage is, of course, the lack of pollution created by solar energy production. In fact, if all of our electrical energy were produced by such means, we might not be worrying about global warming and the other destructive effects of pollution on our environment.

These threats to our environment also pose a threat to mankind. Solar power could be developed to a point where it, along with other forms of renewable energy, would replace harmful means of electricity production.

It isn't necessarily impossible to have a clean and safe Earth. We just have to work on it

Environmental Facts about Solar Energy

  • All life on earth is dependent upon solar energy. In fact, without solar energy, there would be no life at all. Even the lowest life forms, such as plankton and microbes, need solar energy (in the form of sunlight) in order to survive.
  • Solar energy is completely environmental friendly, producing absolutely no carbon emissions or other harmful byproducts whatsoever.
  • Solar energy can be used successfully and cost-effectively just about anywhere on the planet. You do not need to live in a tropical or desert climate in order to benefit from the use of solar energy. Solar power has been used successfully in many cold climates and even in the polar regions.
  • Every area of the United States of America receives enough sunlight to benefit from and make use of solar energy and solar technology.
  • Currently, the cheapest and most effective way of using solar energy in your home is through the use of solar water heating systems. In fact, solar water heating systems have been commercially available in the United States for over a 100 years.
  • Solar energy can be used for heating homes effectively in cold climates, as well as in warm climates. In fact, solar heating has been in use many cold-climate northern European countries for several decades now.
  • Solar energy technology has advanced far enough that it can be a viable and cost-effective replacement for regular grid-electricity.
  • Solar energy is rapidly increasing in popularity - so much so that the demand for solar-powered gadgets is currently greater than the supply

15thStop: Tips To Make A Fast Model Solar Boat

Design Principles

The first and most important rule when making a boat is that it must be as light as possible. This point cannot be over emphasised. Available power to propel the boat is limited so it is not possible to compensate for a heavy boat by giving it more power. The acceleration of a boat from the start line directly relates to the weight of the boat, that is, lighter boats accelerate faster. The top speed of the boat regardless of the hull shape will be higher if it is lighter because the boat will draw less water and have less drag. All these points combine to make this the most important factor determining a fast boat. However, other boat design factors must also be correct to have a fast boat.
The next most important factor is hull shape. The shape of the hull determines that drag created as the boat moves through the water and of course low drag is good. A design problem arises in selection of the best hull shape as model solar boats may be raced in overcast of bright sun conditions. This is very important because a hull designed for lowest drag in bright sun conditions will be a classic planing hull like a typical speed boat. A boat hull designed for lowest drag in overcast conditions will be a classic displacement hull like a large ship. The art of good design is to create a hull that will operate well in both conditions. Another very important consideration when determining the hull shape is static and dynamic stability. This means the boat must sit in the water without rolling over and when racing down the pool it must be self correcting when it deviates from the line of the string. Studying the lines and curves of a typical speed boat will give many clues to the shapes required for good stability.
The boat must be reliable. All the component and material choices must be made with reliability in mind. The boat must finish the race to win the race. Also, a fast boat must be able to sustain some large impacts hitting the end of the pool and this should be considered in the design. With regard to reliability it is wise to have a boat that is of a design that allows a backup motor or solar panel to be fitted between races.

14th Stop: Go Green: Walk for value!

SMKTAR

On the 24th of April, there was a walk for value being held at Giant Hypermarket. The participation is free and everyone was welcomed to join! Actually Giant was the starting point and they'll be walking up to Jusco Bukit Tinggi. More than 10 schools participated plus all the adults that willingly joined, it was pretty crowded on that day. It started at 7.30am and all the schools were getting ready with their preparations..

We were asked to yell our school name :D
We were there!!

Our T-Shirt! *front view*
*back view*

At there, they encourage people to recycle too! Thats because you can see recycle bins everywhere you walk. And also stalls to show you examples of recyclable stuffs.

Recyclable things :D Obey it!
Recycle bins in unique shapes, to make it easier for you guys! No more confusion to which colour does this belong to? :D

Yeap thats right, use them to save on plastics :D
Medic is prepared just incase. We are caring people :)

13th Stop: Meeting at SMK Alam Megah

Apologies for the late posting. On the 12th of April, 5 of the participant schools in Selangor were invited to SMK Alam Megah for the important briefing about the BP MyScience project 2011. The talk was basically about the rules and regulations and the objectives of this project. And we were also given the solar panel for the solar boat race! It is only 1 V this year, so it'll be more challenging for us to compete. We need to step up our pace STAR BP MyScience crew!!

Explains, everyone listen up!
The solar panel, interesting...
Only 3 of us here because the other two, Jasveerpal Singh and Amir Rizah were at the finals of Drama Competition :)
A picture with Mr. Koh Kian Choon :D

12th Stop: Why we should recycle?

People often ask, why we should recycle? Its easy, here are the reasons :

SAVES NATURAL RESOURCES
By making products from recycled materials instead of virgin materials, we conserve land and reduce the need to dig for minerals.

SAVES ENERGY
It usually takes less energy to take recycled products; recycled aluminium, for example, takes 95% less energy than new aluminium.

SAVES MONEY AND CREATES JOBS
The recycling process creates far more jobs than landfills or incenerators, and recycling can frequently be the least expensive waste management methods.

SAVES LANDFILL SPACE
When the materials that you recycle go into new products, they don't go into landfills or incenerators, so landfill space is conserved.

SAVES CLEAN AIR AND WATER
Making products from recycled materials create less air and water pollution than making products with virgin materials.

its a keyboard actually a modified keyboard!!!!!!!!!!!
